South Glens Falls Wedding DJ – Eagles Club. Black & Red Skull Wedding theme

I was in South Glens Falls as a Wedding DJ recently for a young couple at The Eagles Club. This was a nice little alternative place for a small wedding where the bride and groom could save money by bringing in their own food.

A great night had by all! They used a read and black theme with skulls!

Here is a top 10 list for our very favorite halls in the Saratoga, NY area. We figure, who better than to tell you like it is than a non-biased non-employee who has worked the ins-and-outs of this territory like our disc jockeys. 1) Museum of Dance 

99 S Broadway in Saratoga Springs, NY  – This is my absolute favorite venue. Elegant. 6) Longfellows 500 Union Ave, Saratoga Springs, NY. This has a great indoor facility for ceremony with a coy fish waterfall. The food is out of this world! (518)587-0108   Website

7) The Saratoga Hilton 534 Broadway of Saratoga Springs, NY – You will agree that it is a great location right on the strip to have your wedding ceremony. Nice big reception hall rooms with partitions so that you can select the perfect size for your perfect night. (518) 693-1004 Website

8) Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa 24 Gideon Putnam Road in Saratoga Springs, NY.  This is for, of course, the super high-end wedding location seeker with a very nice observatory fancy glass pane window reception hall.  (518) 226-4700 Website

9) The Lodge on Echo Lake  175 Hudson Street in Warrensburg, NY –  A tille further up from Saratoga for the person who wants a more secluded wedding. It is a very nature-based nice location with waterfront ceremony capability and reception hall with a very large dance floor. (518) 623-5599 Website

WEDDING AT HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS OF LATHAM

Above is a video of my first time DJ’ing at Holiday Inn Express of Latham NY, this weekend. It’s a great place for a wedding reception with modern fixtures, multiple chandlers, ample seating and dance room for a medium sized wedding of maybe 150 or so.

Located right off of the Northway Route 87, Latham NY as a town is a great place to have a wedding; not too far from Albany, Schenectady and Troy, NY.

The Holiday Inn as a venue is a great place covering all bases for your ceremony and reception. At the wedding that I was the DJ for on Saturday, the bride & groom got married right on site, had a great photo shoot in the courtyard, and moved into the reception without a glitch. All inclusive is the key to easy transition and success for your special day.

At this particular wedding, the bride & groom had cake pops (another thing I am relatively new to), and wedding photobooth action provided by www.bryerphotography.com .

A LOOK AT THE VENUE…

CEREMONY – The ceremony can take place in the Gazebo room or outside in the courtyard with a real gazebo.

For this particular wedding, it was overcast with a chance of rain early here in October, so the venue had a great backup plan all ready to go inside. This was good in the end because it did rain. However, everything still came off just fine.

COCKTAIL HOUR – Your cocktail hour can take place in a separate room, just outside the reception hall. In this room, there is a small fountain as a centerpiece for appetizers. The room is a little narrow, but has multiple doors for means of exit. The room is also right off of the reception hall, itself.

RECEPTION HALL – In the middle of the facility, the hall is easy to get to and very accommodating. They have a separate dance floor and the floor plan that the venue went with at this particular wedding was very effective, with entertainment in mind, as well as food service. (This is not always the case.)

Anyhow, without hesitation, I would recommend taking a look at this venue for your wedding.

Mountain View Fire Hall –  A great place to reserve for your small / medium party

Planning a party of under 100 people or so? Looking for a hall with kitchen access? Want to keep the party affordable?

If you are in the Wynantskill / Troy, NY area and are looking for a good hall for a sweet 16 party, class reunion or engagement party, this may be the place for you. Both DJ Maria and myself have had the pleasure of serving as in-house go-to DJs for 90% of the firehouse banquet functions and we can safely say these are great people to do with business with.

Seating a small to medium party or event comfortably, Mountain View Volunteer Fire Company has a great recreational room for rent.

Mountain View VFC has a full kitchen and allows outside catering. The idea of a venue allowing you to have full control of the food creates a potential for super savings for any party planner.  There is a full kitchen set off to the side with two serving windows into the room.

There is comfortable seating for about 100 people still with room for dancing with plenty of additional tables and chairs available.

This summer, I did a number of gigs in Altamont. One venue I particular like is at Helderview Weddings at Orchard Creek Golf club. It is a great place to hold your wedding in Altamont, NY.

Hidden in the foothills of the Helderberg mountains in Altamont, NY, Helderview at Orchard Creek Golf Club provides the perfect setting for both a great wedding ceremony and reception. With the full wedding celebration at one location, you can have an elegant indoor or outdoor ceremony with lots of greenery anda mountainous background, with a reception in a modern pavillion that closes up to brave the elements when needed.

Besides the ability to customize to just what you are looking for in a venue, the food is great. I had an awesome prime rib there, and also a chicken dish this summer when I was the DJ for a few weddings.

Also, I was the DJ for a really cool corporate country-themed event. At that gig, the caterers did a great job customizing their menu for the event at hand. Getting the country theme menu right they featured ribs, BBQ brisket, fried chicken and all kinds of good ‘ole country eats for the guests to grub on.

No matter how you look at it, if you are interested in having your wedding in or around Altamont, check this place out, Orchard Creek!

WEDDING AT SIXTY STATE PLACE IN ALBANY

By now, you have probably heard of Key Hall at Proctors in Schenectady. It is a super nice looking place that is a former all-marble old antique bank. Many people like it for it’s classy look, despite  the acoustics being “echoy” since it is entirely constructed in stone. A similar marble bank venue to Key Hall has recently opened in Albany, NY, however, I like  Sixty State Place even better!

THE LOOK

Today, the historic National Commercial Bank and Trust of Albany has been transformed into a classy ballroom for luxury events and social engagements. Restored in 2013, Sixty State Place combines the most modern amenities with the elegance of the building’s historic origin to give you the best of both worlds for your wedding or special event.

In 1902, the historic bank hired York and Sawyer to create a “temple of finance.” Over 100 years later the exquisite styling and details  are still evident. Now customers can create the backdrop of their events in the uniquely  to showcase their dream theme and design.

THE ACOUSTICS

One of the things for me, a mobile DJ, that really sets apart Sixty State Place from Key Hall is the painstaking effort Sixty has taken to make sound NOT AN ISSUE. Their beautiful 45 foot ceilings in the main ballroom would have created an acoustical challenge without the extra added steps they have taken. For one, their are well-camouflaged sound absorbers everywhere, to diminish the “singing in the shower” feel you would have had without them.

Rising to the challenge, their sound engineers “designed a built in custom audio system that ensures every person within the space hears the same steady, intelligible sound.” This means as a mobile DJ or band, you can plug into Sixty’s system and be heard all over the establishment with ease.

GREAT FOR A WEDDING YOUR WAY

SPACE – Sixty State Place believes in giving each client the opportunity to create their own perfect event. There are some really neatrooms downstairs and an additional backroom off the main ballroom. These extra options allow for cocktail hour, bridal suite, and photo booth opportunities that other halls don’t always allow for.

FOOD – Clients are guided through the event planning process, but given the freedom to select the vendors, layouts, menus, color schemes and event schedules of their choice. All professional licensed vendors are welcome to participate in events in their facilities, including wedding/mobile DJs, bands, photographers, photo booth services and even INCLUDING CATERERS – which means you can pick whatever food services you wish! There is a full kitchen for your vendor of choice, as well as a nice bar and cocktail area downstairs.

MY RATING – I would not hesitate to recommend this hall to anyone.  The event organizers are SUPER HELPFUL! I give this place a 9 out of ten, only because of a potential parking issue for massive parties. However, at the wedding I was the DJ for over the weekend, the bride and groom reserved a private lot behind the facility and there was no problem for anyone, so it can be done.
