Here is a great place card display I saw recently at a wedding in Schenectady, NY, at the Grace Luthern Church, on 1930 Hillside Ave.
Using a wicker trellis, monogram letters, and hanging place cards, this is a fun and decorative way to show your guests to their seats.
To start, figure out what your cards will look like and how your wedding place cards will hang. Will you use ribbon? Twine? Fishing line? This coupe used neat little white cards with tiny clothespins holding them to curled ribbon.
Next, what will the cards and the libes hang from?
If you follow the outline as etched out in this picture, all you do is purchase or create your own wicker trellis. (You can also use a branch, or picture frame as seen in our previous blog here: Hanging Table Place Cards )
I saw a neat wedding idea at The Albany Country Club this weekend for place cards. Every place card created to assign guest seating to the appropriate tables had a face on it. The fun thing about the picture place cards was the choice of pictures. Most of them were photographs of the guest at a very young age.
At first glance, I thought to myself, “this must have taken forever to organize!” Between playing songs, I always investigate new ideas for my readers. I am the Sherlock Holmes of DJs.
The maid of honor told me it was actually easier than the finished product may have looked.
What her and the bride did was creep Facebook for a bunch of old pictures. She said they found a bunch of the younger shots this way and filled in the missing pictures with funny pics that nobody would expect. In a few cases where there wasn’t much of anything to pull from, they just simply messaged the person and requested a picture, keeping it TOP SECRET, and not revealing the reason for the request. The bride said, “we need a picture of you when you were a kid for a surprise we are working on for the wedding.” That was it.
Another twist to this already interesting twist on place cards is to print the cards out and actually mount the place setting onto business card magnet stock. This way, your guests will want to keep the card as a keepsake and put it on their refridgerator when they get home.
If you are planning on having a candle table at your wedding reception, here is a neat little idea I saw last weekend.
While DJ’ing for a wedding at The Hilton Garden Inn on Hoosick Street in Troy, NY, I saw the following neat little idea.
The newlyweds had a wedding candy cart arranged as part of the party favors. As a special thank you gift from the bride & groom, they decided to work their candy cart into the actual table place cards, for a little fun. (Ever watch a sweet-toothed guest salivate before they even walk in the door?)
Killing two birds with one stone, they printed the place card information on the candy bags; each individual guest name, along with the number of the table where they wanted the guest to sit.
Of course, the bags followed the color scheme and set the mood sitting just outside of the hall on a decorated table. As the people signed in on the guestbook and grabbed their bags, this sweet idea also created anticipation for the candy cart later on.
What a great idea! Below are some pictures of this creative idea in work.
WEDDING DJ TIP – Clothesline Hanging Wedding Table Place Cards
As the DJ, I have seen some really great table place card ideas, of late. “Hanging Table Place Cards” is a fun, new, affordable twist for wedding decorating and, at the same time, helps your guests to their tables in a fun manner.
This is an easy do-it-youself decoration for your wedding and can really add a lot of character to your special night.
The premise of the hanging place card is simple; lines tied between points with all of your loved ones names hanging from the line… period. Whatever you do to apply this loose concept is entirely up to you. Here are some tips or ideas to help you out.
WEDDING GUEST TAGS / CARDS – Hand write or have cards or tags printed with all your guests names and where you would like them to sit.
THE “CLOTHESLINE” – Fishing line, twine, ribbon, clothesline and various strings can all be used to clip to, according to the taste or theme of the wedding that you are looking to achieve.
A PICTURE FRAME – You will need some kind of posts to clip your place cards to. An antique picture frame is a nifty idea! Or you could make some kind of custom posts.
CUSTOM-PICKED CLIPS – Also, your choice of clips can really bring some fun to the table as well. A rustic wedding or one with a country theme may look perfect with old-fashion clothespins. A modern wedding, however, may look great with silver or bronze clips, according to the colors of your wedding.
Be creative and have fun with this. Like any good wedding, there are no rules and the ideas are endless. Here are a number of hanging place card pictures you can use as a resource for your very own hanging wedding table place cards.

Over the weekend, I was DJ’ing at a fun Altamont Orchard wedding, in Altamont NY. There I saw yet another place card idea that I haven’t seen before and decided to share it with you.
Here is a great little idea for your fall wedding. How about using Fall Theme Wedding Table Place Cards for your special day?
All you do is take tree branches with lots of arms, poke them down into flower pots, punch a hole in your place cards and tie them to the branches with ribbons!
REAL OR FAKE? A classic question for brides and grooms, everywhere… I think I prefer real. I’m sure you could use artificial trees, as they look really nice, but they may not be as good as the real thing. Also, a nice idea may be to take real saplings and plant them after your wedding reception. That way you will have a commemoration tree (or trees) to enjoy for years to come, remembering the special day.
This wedding place card tree idea is a great idea, particularly for weddings in the Fall. Enjoy!
Are you a fan of the candy bag buffet tables where you fill a bag as a party favor, but don’t want to promote the high-caloric intake?
Here is a healthy and tasty twist on a familiar wedding favor idea to the candy bar buffet you see at many trendy weddings today; The Do-It-Yourself Trail Mix Wedding Buffet Bar!
It’s a great idea that kills two birds with one stone; Place Cards & Party Favors…
You simply use mason jar lids as your table place cards that show your guests to their seats & a “Do-It-Yourself Trail Mix Buffet Bar” that uses the lids again later, to top mason jars in order to save the guests’ crunchy creations!
That’s right! The guests save their place card, wondering what it is for. Then, by the end of the wedding it all makes sense! Fun right? Kind of like an Episode of LOST, but with the payoff!
HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN TRAIL MIX BAG WEDDING STATION
It isn’t difficult at all. The only difference over using candy and candy bags is how you would like to package your granola. Here is how it works in 10 easy steps to granola goodness…
STEP 1 – CREATE MASON JAR LIDS FOR PLACE CARDS
1) Buy a bunch of mason jars at the dollar store, or craft shop.
2) Decorate the lids, with ribbons or paint to taste. You can decorate the lids with ribbons, tags, paint, lace, decals, stamps or anything you can imagine to help customize the feel you are looking for and harness your personalities.
3) Write your wedding date and the bride & groom’s names on the top of each one of the lids.
4) On the inside of each lid, write the names of each one of your guests, along with their assigned seating table numbers. You do this just the same as you would on a printed table place card.
5) Decoratively lay out the lids on a table by where the guests will enter your reception. Use the jar lids as your table place cards to direct your wedding guests to their seats.
6) Create a sign instructing the guests that they must save their lids for later. Not telling the people why they are saving the lids may build up an anticipation for when you open the trail mix bar for business later on.
STEP 2 – GUESTS MAKE CUSTOM TRAIL MIX – STORING IN MASON JARS WITH LID PLACE CARDS
7) Purchase and stock pile mass quantities of all of your favorite trail mix ingredients. Check online for places to save when buying all your great nuts, grains, dried fruits and more!
8 ) After the wedding dinner, roll out your own “Do-It-Yourself Trail Mix” buffet table.
9) Provide the empty mason jars in a basket, as the “take out” bags for the guests to store their custom trail mix concoctions in.
10) Have your DJ announce and explain details on the trail mix bar. Tell the guests to use the lids from their place cards to store their custom trail mix in the jars, and to attack!
TRAIL MIX BAR & PLACE CARD IDEA GALLERY
Have fun with this idea! The possibilities are endless. Here are some pictures that I took at a recent wedding where they did this activity with great success, along with some other sample pictures to help get your granola juices flowing.
