On the Monday, September 8, 2014 episode of @Midnight on Comedy Central, I was featured as the subject of a bit about DJs. I was spoofed hard, but I loved every minute of it!
You may recognize @Midnight host Chris Hardwick from AMC’s Talking Dead and Talking Bad. He is the after-show guy for both Walking Dead and Breaking Bad who immediately discusses the new episodes with celebrity superfans. He is a self-proclaimed nerd as I am, so being a fan of both of the AMC award-winning shows myself, it was my great to be ribbed by one of the best.
ABOUT THE SHOW – @MIDNIGHT: This episode of Hardwick’s relatively new show @Midnight features three comedians “playing” on a game show-like set who buzz in and comment on topics like the news, the entertainment world and odd clips from the internet. This one was about WACKY DJ pictures like myself who do weddings and even more particular, BAR MITZVAHS.
BEHIND-THE-SCENES: The picture of me featured was taken at a Halloween wedding I DJ’ed for my good friend and fellow DJ, Pete Sefcik. Chris Hardwick and The Sklar Brothers really had some fun at my expense! Although it was in costume, I was supposed to be dressed as RUN-DMC’s Jam Master Jay in the picture, but really only looked whiter than WonderBread. Alas, I deserved every bit of their spoofing.
This clip is a total riot and I really loved the exposure! Thanks Chris! You are the man! 🙂
Last year, I saw George Clinton and The P-Funk outside enjoying everything the Albany area has to offer, for FREE. One thing we all love are events at the Empire State Plaza in Albany for New York State Capital Concert Series.
Always free, always family-friendly and always funky fresh.
Featuring… George Thorogood, Living Colour, Bootsie Collins & Kellie Pickler!!!
That is right. Living Colour, Bootsy Collins and George Thorogood are among the performers who will play at the Empire State Plaza during this year’s Wednesday night concert series, according to the Office of General Services. I personally have always wanted to see George live and NEVER HAVE. One of my first tape cassettes EVER was a George Thorogood and The Destroyers LIVE album and I played that thing until it died.

DATES TO KNOW BEFORE PLANNING YOUR WEDDING IN 2014 –
If you want success at your wedding, attendance plays a big part.
There are a billion things to think about when planning your wedding in Albany NY or around the world, but what some people do not take into account is the importance of the actual date selection itself on the calendar.
NEVER NEVER NEVER select a wedding date because that is the only day a wedding hall has open. There could be a reason it is open that nobody has booked for that day! Do your homework and figure out what else could be happening that day before selecting.
What are the days around they day you are thinking of choosing? What other things could be happening on this date that could create competition? Choosing a “Holiday Weekend Wedding” can totally have it’s pros and cons, but however, sometimes the nostalgia is not really worth it, in the end.
THE PROS OF PLANNING A HOLIDAY WEDDING –
1) HOLIDAYS ARE EASY TO REMEMBER
2) HOLIDAYS HELP PROVIDE YOU WITH A THEME TO FOLLOW
3) GUESTS MAY HAVE OFF OF WORK – Another great thing about planning a holiday wedding is that your guests will have an extra day off of work 9usually a monday) for recovery and travel time. Or, a holiday weekend can allow for a better Sunday wedding, which incidently, is often more affordable that a Saturday wedding works out to be.
THE CONS ON SELECTING A HOLIDAY FOR YOUR WEDDING –
1) TRAVEL INCREASE – Traveling costs are traditionally more on holidays, bottom line. Your costs and the the cost for your guests’ airfare traveling and/or hotels are often higher on holiday weekends, due to supply and demand of travelers.
2) GUEST ATTENDANCE – Choosing a holiday wedding might hurt your wedding guest attendance list. Let’s face it. People are creatures of habit, and nobody likes change. Some families have other regularly scheduled commitments and traditions for on-going standing holiday weekend and, more often than not, these are traditions are ones that some people would not want to change, no matter what the cause.

3) RELIGIOUS DAYS –
While you may or may not recognize a number of religious holidays, your guests might. Think about religious holidays when choosing your wedding date. There may even be church restrictions on if you are allowed to marry at these times, so you may have to make some calls if you go against this one.

DJ TIPS – MORE WEDDING DATE SELECTION TIPS
COSTLY HOLIDAYS – Valentine’s Day will make your floral bill shyrocket, and New Year’s will make your venue more too!
PERSONALLY SIGNIFICANT DAYS – Check your own calendar for college reunions, family weddings, anniversaries or other events, like big conventions or festivals in your city (call your local chamber of commerce), and any annual occasions that involve your family or close friends.
HOLIDAY WEEKENDS – Holiday weekend weddings have pros and cons. You’ve got an extra day for the festivities (and recovery!); plus, a Sunday wedding is often less expensive than a Saturday one would be. However, costs of travel and hotels may be higher. And if you’re looking to marry around Valentine’s Day, be wary of your floral bill, especially if you’ve got your heart set on red roses — they’ll likely be more expensive than at any other time of the year. Likewise, reception sites often charge a higher fee for a New Year’s Eve wedding. Also consider the impact of a holiday weekend on your guest list: Some families have standing plans or traditions that they’d prefer not to miss.
We had the fortune of being asked to DJ for The Northeast Kidney Foundation’s 2013 Walk fundraiser at The Crossings in Colonie, NY on June 91th, 2013.
Good people came out once again for the good cause.
The event featured a boat load of entertainment including, a kids zone featuring Kizmet and her balloon-twisting clown friends, Sidney the Kidney, pony rides and games; Battlezone Laser Tag and a 50/50 and the one strike dunk tank.
If you would like to make an additional donation, please contact Carol LaFleur at 518-533-7880, or by emailing carol@healthykidneys.org
This time, the setting was The Crossings of Colonie (South Pavilion), 580 Albany Shaker Rd, Loudonville, NY. It was a 2.5 Mile Family Fun Walk. Despite the fact that the weather has been weird lately with hot, cold, rain and sun, things turned out pretty well.
The sponsors came out again with generous giveaways and fun activities. It felt like a fair for the people who showed up between 11-1:30 pm or so with fun, food and a great family atmosphere. We at TheDJservice.com provided a nifty blend of pop music and classics, along with directions and ll to keep things flowing nicely.
We mic’ed a great opening speech before the race with a number of Easter Seals staff and community members on hand, as well as a fourth grade string ensemble that played the National Anthem and also music to start the walk. Sponsors such as Century 21, CVS, Resultz Zumba Dancers, Corporate Wellness Solutions, Amway, Albany Massage Therapy Association, Aflac, Pitbull Kissing Booth, Bub Kat Bounce, and Mass Mutual among others all threw into the hat for this great cause.
Before registration, the kids had a great time with BubKat’s Bouncy Inflatable fun, hot dogs on the grill, and The Pitbull Kissing Booth.
During the opening ceremony, however, we watched as an ominous dark cloud of doom inch it’s way toward our party. However, the lurking evil did not strike fear into the determined hearts of our bunch! As fate would allow, we were able to get everything in on my speaker system just before the air horn sounded to open the walk. (After the walk began, a rain sprawl came in, forcing me to run my electrical gear out of harm’s way. Fifteen minutes or so wasn’t enough, however, to scare any walkers home!)
That is right! A little water didn’t stop our walkers. Records at the time of this posting show that $14,834.16 were raised in donations and walk pledges!
While the walk may haves began with a wet start, the rain subsided quick enough to allow comfortable strolling for all!
