ADDING ANTIQUE ARTIFACTS LIKE DOORS & WINDOWS TO YOUR WEDDING
Here is a new trend for the very popular rustic wedding enthusiast. What many people are doing is slightly restoring a piece of architecture for decorative purposes at their wedding.
The rustic theme was very popular this year and I saw some similar ideas at all of them.
Two weeks in a row, I was the DJ for a rustic-style weddings. The first wedding was at the Apel Inn in Altamont. The other wedding was at Revolution Hall of Browns Brewery in Troy, NY.
One continuing decoration trend I am seeing this year is the small sections of wood as the centerpiece and both of these rustic weddings had this. It is funny though, because these particular weddings also both had pieces of old home construction being used as decorations for their place carding.
The only difference is one wedding had a door, while the other had a window. Here are some pictures that I took so you could get an idea on how to do something similar. Thanks for looking!
ANTIQUE WINDOW & DOOR DECORATIONS FOR YOUR WEDDING
USING LOG SECTIONS TO LINE YOUR WEDDING CEREMONY WALKWAY
Here is a neat idea! For this recent rustic wedding in Glenville, NY, I saw something I hadn’t seen before. What the couple did for their reception was to use thin sections of wood for the centerpiece. The centerpiece idea had been done on many weddings I have been the DJ for, however, this couple decided to use larger sections of wood to accentuate their ceremony.
On top of each tree quarter section, they added an interesting candle holder with a ribbon bottom. The candle itself was sitting in stones.
This can really be an interesting add for a the simple rustic wedding minimalist.
Lately less is more in the wedding industry. It seems that rustic simple wedding decor is taking off like never before. In the spirit of fun and new twists to wedding guestbooks, here is an original looking one I hadn’t seen before.
This past weekend at Treviso by Mallozzi’s, at 257 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, NY, I had the pleasure of working with a very creative couple as their DJ for the evening.
This couple has a nice rustic theme in their house and had a mini picnic table top made up to frame and put on the wall. All they did was have their initials put on it, and it made for yet another neat guest book idea!
This simple design can be easily made by yourself or commissioned out to altogether rather inexpensively by anyone that knows how to use a hammer and saw.
While many wedding books end up in the attic, this one also makes for a great piece that the bride and groom can share for years to come!
If you are planning an outside wedding and are really into the rustic crafty country look, I just did a wedding at Lakeside Farms Pavillion in Ballston Lake, NY. The bride and groom really got into the theme and did a super job. Here are a few of their crafty little ideas.
MESSAGE TABLECLOTHS – This bride and groom wanted a crafty feel for their wedding, so in addition to making their own flowers they used nicely decorated brown paper for their tablecloths. Then, they actually wrote each guests name on the place setting and encouraged their guests to write messages of well wishes on their tables throughout the night.
At the end of the reception, they rolled up the messages like giant scrolls with the intent to publish all of the messages on their special wedding web site that they had created for the event.
CUSTOM CRAFTY PHOTO BACKDROP – This next idea is very novel and acts as both decor and entertainment. My bride and groom also created and painted their own custom backdrop for photos, borrowing from the photobooth idea. The difference here is it had their names, the wedding date and other important tidbits splattered all over it
What this couple decided to do to create their custom backdrop was to make a tri-fold chalkboard-looking bacadef by hinginging three pieces of plyboard together. The boards were painted in black and decorated by white writing and designs.
To add to the entertainment value of this decoration, they also left a box of silly costume accessories and props for the guests to use while posing in front of their creation. Some things in the box included feather boas, crazy hats and even costume jewelry.
Finally, they strategically placed their crafty backdrop in a corner and let the fun begin.
CREPE PAPER FLOWERS EVERYWHERE – Who says you need to spend a fortune on flowers? The crafty bride and groom at this particular wedding made all of their own flowers out of pink and white crepe paper. It was really quite impressive. They covered the whole pavillion with baskets bouquets and bunches of these decorations, and even hung massive ones form the rafters. Any flat surface was subjected to the pink and white attack.
Each flower was different. Some were solid colors, other were multi-colored. Some flower arrangements were tiny and placed and displayed in baskets, while others where giant blooms were attached to actual tree branches!
What a great idea! Below is a video on how to actually make a crepe paper flower, yourself. Enjoy!
